Police: Stalled vehicle triggered fatal three-vehicle crash along Jalan Puncak Borneo

KUCHING, Jan 17: A stalled vehicle on Jalan Puncak Borneo is believed to have triggered a fatal three-vehicle collision, according to preliminary police investigations.

Padawan district police chief Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi said the accident, which occurred at about 5am, happened when a Perodua Myvi struck the rear of a damaged Proton Iswara before losing control and skidding into the opposite lane.

“The Myvi then collided head-on with an oncoming Proton Exora,” he said in a statement yesterday (Jan 16).

Following the crash, the 33-year-old male driver of the Perodua Myvi and the 37-year-old female driver of the Exora were pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the Proton Iswara sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Sarawak General Hospital for treatment.

Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz urged anyone who witnessed the incident or has information related to the crash to assist the investigation by contacting the investigating officer, Insp Kenneystra Pius, at 014-982 8198.

An earlier report by the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) also confirmed that a 29-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Perodua Myvi, sustained injuries and was transported to Sarawak General Hospital for further treatment. – DayakDaily
