Police seize ketamin worth RM264,016 in Sg Merah, two suspects arrested

SIBU, Sept 21: Police seized 4.8kg of ketamin and arrested a couple suspected of trafficking drugs through their entertainment centre at the Sungai Merah bazaar.

Speaking at a press conference here today, state Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) chief ACP Jasmirol Jamaluddin revealed an NCID team raided the premises at 9pm on Sept 19, following information received from members of the public.

The man, 33 and his wife, 34, were detained. They also tested positive for drugs.


“During the raid, the team seized two boxes containing 4.8kg of ketamin with a street value of RM264,016 from the couple who are operators of the centre,” Jasmirol disclosed.

The police had also seized RM24,073 in cash and a Toyota Harrier worth RM40,000.

The two suspects have been remanded for seven days from Sept 20 to 27.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 15(1) (a) of the same Act.

Section 39B of the Act carries a mandatory death sentence of hanging upon conviction.
