The two lorries laden with illegal sawn timber confiscated during the road block.

SIMUNJAN, Feb 10: Police confiscated 1,188 pieces of sawn timber and two three-tonne lorries during a road block at Jalan Simunjan-Gedong on Saturday.

Simunjan district police chief DSP Merbin Lisa said the two lorry drivers, both local men, aged 32 and 37, were also detained.

“Both lorries were heading towards Serian from Pusa to deliver the load, which was found without legal documentations.

“Initial investigation found that all the sawn timber in the lorry were acquired illegally for personal use to build a house in Serian,” he said in a statement.

Merbin also noted that driver was brought to Simunjan police headquarters to assist in the investigation

He said the confiscated logs and the two lorries were handed over to the Simunjan Forestry Department for investigation under Section 95(1) of the Sarawak Forest Ordinance 1995.

“Simunjan police encourage the public to convey any information regarding crime, as well as drug related activities, in their area to ensure that action can be taken to curb the problem,” he said. — DayakDaily
