Police seize crypto mining rigs after uncovering illegal electricity tapping at premises

SIBU, Aug 11: The police here have successfully busted a bitcoin mining syndicate for using illegal electricity sources, resulting in losses of up to half a million ringgit to the utility company.

Acting on information received from Sesco Sibu, a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) of the Sibu District Police Headquarters (IPD) raided a two-storey house in Jalan Serai at 12.50pm yesterday.

Sibu District Police Chief, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the raid was carried out by JSJ IPD Sibu team together with Sesco Sibu.

“The results of the investigation carried out by the police found that the uninhabited premises had been turned into a bitcoin mining hub by illegally connecting electricity to the machines,” he said in a statement today.

According to him, further inspection by the police unconvered as many as 34 units of cryptocurrency mining rigs estimated to be worth RM38,000. — DayakDaily
