Police seize 60 immitation firearms, arrest two at toy store in Sibu mall

SIBU, Jan 22: Police seized 60 imitation firearms during a raid at a toy store in a shopping mall here on Monday (Jan 20).

In a news report by TVS, Sibu District Police Chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said a man and a woman, aged between 25 and 29, were arrested during Ops Laras, an operation conducted by the Criminal Investigation Division of Sibu District Police Headquarters (IPD) at around 2.30pm.

“The seizure comprised of 25 imitation pistols and 35 imitation rifles,” he revealed during a press conference yesterday (Jan 21).

He explained that Op Laras was launched simultaneously across Sarawak in response to complaints and intelligence about the sale of imitation firearms to the public.

The case is being investigated under Section 36(1) of the Firearms Act 1960, which prohibits the possession, purchase, or sale of imitation firearms under any circumstances.

“Offenders face a penalty of up to one year in prison, a fine of up to RM5,000, or both, if convicted,” Zulkipli emphasised.

The police also urged the public to come forward with any information about the sale of imitation firearms by contacting their nearest police station for prompt action. — DayakDaily
