Police, Sarawak Energy cut off power to 7 illegal gambling dens

KUCHING, Nov 16: Power supply to seven premises around Matang, Batu Kawah and Kota Sentosa areas were cut off during a crackdown by the authorities on Nov 13 and 14 on suspicion of operating illegal gambling activities.

According to a press statement today, the integrated operation was conducted by Padawan District Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Department with Sarawak Energy Bhd under the provisions of Section 21A of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.

During the operation on Nov 13 from 4pm to 8pm in Matang here, five premises had their electricity cut off. From 2.45pm to 3.30pm the following day, the authorities cut off the power supply to two premises at Kota Sentosa and Batu Kawah.

Such operations, the statement added, would be conducted from time to time in an effort to eradicate illegal gambling activities, especially in Padawan District. — DayakDaily
