KUCHING, May 27: The police yesterday conducted successful raids on 33 illegal gambling premises all over the state.
State CID chief SAC Dennis Leong told reporters that the operations were carried out between 12pm Saturday to 10pm that same night in 19 districts namely Kuching, Kota Samarahan, Miri, Sibu, Padawan, Serian, Bau, Betong, Mukah, Julau, Lubok Antu, Lawas, Bintulu, Sri Aman, Limbang, Marudi, Simunjan, Sarikei and Kapit.
Premises raided were for illegal lottery ticket selling (19), online gambling (13) and an illegal casino.
A total of 26 male and 11 female suspects, aged between 18 and 63-years-old, were arrested. Five were foreigners.
“A total of RM5,150 cash, 30 mobile phones, two laptops, a deck of playing cards, betting slips and booklets, and various stationery items were seized during the raids.
“Those arrested are being investigated under the Common Gaming Houses Act,” Leong told reporters early this morning. — DayakDaily
