KUCHING, Sept 19: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has launched an investigation and intelligence operation into Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH) in Sarawak, following the alleged abuse of over 400 children at 20 care homes across Selangor and Negri Sembilan.

He explained that several GISBH operations have been identified, and active monitoring and intelligence works are ongoing.

“There are no reports of misconduct in Sarawak at this time, and we are conducting joint surveillance and intelligence gathering with Bukit Aman,” he told a press conference at the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) today.

GISB recently faced controversy over allegations of child exploitation, following police raids on 20 premises linked to the company, which were operating as care centres and charitable homes.

The police rescued 402 minors, aged between one and 17, from alleged exploitation in a major operation on Sept 11 after a six-month investigation at 20 GISBH-linked welfare homes in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.

The victims, who were locals, had endured various forms of exploitation and abuse including being sodomised.

In under a week, authorities have ramped up their investigation under Ops Global with 171 suspects aged between 17 and 64 were arrested including a teacher and dormitory caretakers, and are currently under remand to assist investigations.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain revealed that GISBH’s operations commenced after the banning of Darul Arqam in 1994, during which several senior leaders were detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA).

It is understood that GISBH operates in 16 countries, managing 412 business premises globally. — DayakDaily
