MIRI, Jan 1: Three women were among seven people detained by the police during a raid held in the wee hours of New Year’s day for drug trafficking and selling drugs.
During the raid, police seized five types of suspected illegal substances worth RM1.05 million. Also seized were various assets worth RM105,000.
The suspects were picked up at three different locations in the raid which began at 3.45am on January 1.
In a press conference held today, Sarawak Police Commissioner (CP) Datuk Ramli Din said that the amount of drugs seized were 9,000 gm (Syabu); 349gm of Ketamin; 449gm of Ecstasy powder and 2,250 pills of Erimin 5 .
According to Ramli, the first two suspects were detained inside a parked luxury car at MCLD Miri.
“Upon further inspection inside the vehicle , the State Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) one luggage bag containing three tea packets and two plastic packets concealing suspected illegal subtances of Syabu and Ketamin,” he said.
The first arrest led to the following two at raids in residential area at Desa Senadin and at Jalan Muria 1, Pujut 2B.
“It was believed that the syndicate involved an online drugs network as it’s modus operandi,” he said.
All suspects, aged between 21 and 38, were detained under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides a mandatory death sentence if guilty.
Also present at the press conference was Sarawak NCID head Supt Hasnir Abdul Hamid. —DayakDaily
