SIBU, June 5: Police are tracking a man who fled with two rings while on the pretext of buying them at a goldsmith’s shop at Jalan Market here.
Sibu deputy police chief, Supt Collin Babat said in the Wednesday (June 3) 11 am incident, the goldsmith, 58, was in the shop when the suspect showed up, saying that he wanted to buy a gold ring.
“The suspect asked the complainant to take out two gold rings from the cabinet for him to try on both hands. However, the suspect dashed out from the shop with two 8.51 grams and 6.46 grams gold rings and escaped,” he said.
He said following a report lodged by the victim, a police team visited the scene and had checked the closed-circuit camera (CCTV).
“A CCTV check revealed that an unidentified man had entered the premises and escaped after trying the rings,” he said.
He added that the suspect has been identified through CCTV footage and is currently being tracked by detectives.
The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building.-DayakDaily
