Online gambling illegal calling centres: nine individuals nabbed in Kuching

KUCHING, June 5: Nine individuals, including three women, were arrested for operating illegal calling centres for online gambling during a raid on late Thursday afternoon.

Sarawak CID Chief SAC Dennis Leong said the CID police team had raided two locations, an apartment located at MJC Batu Kawa area and a block located at Taman Sri Moyan here.

“The raid and arrest came about from information received and painstaking surveillance to buildup the information and to identify the exact location,” he said in a press statement.

“These call centres contacted the punters using WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, Instagram and Wechat via links such as 918Kiss, Mega, LPE88, Joker, Xe88,” he added.

According to Leong, the team had seized 14 units of hand phone, eight computer monitors, five computer keyboards, five computer mouses and five CPUs.

“These call centres were operating 24/7 and had been in operation for about 11 months. The daily earnings are about RM11,000,” he said.

The suspects, aged between 18 to 26 years, will be investigated under Section 4(1)(g) of the Common Gaming House Acts 1953 -DayakDaily.
