KUCHING, Aug 22: The Kuching District police headquarters (IPD Kuching) has announced road closures and traffic management plans ahead of the Malaysia Games (Sukma) XXI Sarawak 2024 closing ceremony, which will begin at 7pm on Aug 24 at Stadium Perpaduan in Petra Jaya here and continue until the event’s conclusion.
To facilitate smooth traffic flow, several key roads leading to Stadium Perpaduan will be closed starting from 3pm on the day of the event. The following areas will be affected by the closures:
1. Sesco roundabout
2. Kesuma Resort roundabout
3. Intersection from Sumber Alam to Stadium Perpaduan
4. Entrance to Stadium Perpaduan from Jalan Stadium (front)
5. Entrance to Stadium Perpaduan from Jalan Stadium (back)
6. Entrance to Stadium Perpaduan from Jalan Diplomatik (front of aquatic centre)
7. Access road to Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre (1)
8. Access road to Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre (2)
9. Padang Gasing access road
10. Jalan Diplomatik (squash centre)
11. Lane to the bus parking area (beside the State Stadium)
12. Jalan Stadium (ring road) / Intersection to public parking
Members of the public who plan to attend the event are advised to use the following routes to reach the designated public parking areas:
1. Vehicles approaching from Sesco roundabout are advised to make a ‘U’ turn at the Casuarina roundabout and proceed along Jalan Casuarina to enter the stadium ring road.
2. Vehicles using Jalan Diplomatik can enter the designated parking area located behind the Sarawak Stadium.
For the exit routes after the event, the public is advised to follow these guidelines:
1. Vehicles parked at the Sarawak Stadium are advised to exit using Jalan Diplomatik towards Demak.
2. Vehicles on Jalan Stadium (ring road) are advised to exit via Jalan Stadium (ring road) towards Jalan Casuarina.
IPD Kuching further requested the cooperation of all attendees to avoid parking along the shoulders of the roads and to plan their journey in advance to help alleviate traffic congestion.
