Police hunt for culprits as 79 graves desecrated in Muara Lebaan Bintangor Cemetery

KUCHING, April 14: Approximately 79 graves in the Muara Lebaan Bintangor Cemetery in Bintangor have been desecrated, according to Meradong district police chief DSP Sekam Anoi.

Sekam emphasised that the culprits had broken the cement and dug up the graves, exposing the coffins.

He added that a police report was received at 12.33pm on Friday (April 12), and that officers from the Criminal Investigation Division went directly to the scene to investigate.

“The last time the complainant and people in the village visited the cemetery was on March 30 this year,” he said in a statement.

Sekam went on to say that the complainants were made aware of the incident through a Facebook post.

“Hence, individuals from the public or any party who possess information regarding the incident are urged to step forward and aid the investigation,” he stated.

Further investigation of the case is carried out under Section 297 of the Penal Code.
