Police find container by roadside containing cigarettes worth RM790,000


BINTULU, April 17: A container left along Jalan Bintulu-Tatau near Sibiyu Industrial Estate was found to contain various types of cigarettes estimated to be worth RM790,000 today.

Sarawak Marine Police Force (PPM) Region 5 commander ACP Zulfikar Mohd Ghazali said his personnel from the Bintulu Marine Intelligence Unit had conducted surveillance on the container for two hours.

He said an inspection conducted at about 4am found 105 boxes of cigarettes which were believed to have no Customs tax.


“The cigarettes found in the container were 40,000 Iscore Max cigarettes worth RM30,000 and 10,000 Luffman Premium Blend Red cigarettes estimated to be worth RM7,500.

“There were also 1 million Luffman Premium Blend Blue cigarettes estimated to be worth RM750,000. So, the total value of the seizure including the container is RM790,000,” he said in a statement today.

No arrests were made as no one came forward to claim the container and its contents.

The seized items were handed over to the Bintulu IPD Criminal Investigation Division for further action.

The case is being investigated under Section 135 (1) (d) of the Customs Act 1967. — DayakDaily
