Police deny viral claim of aircraft skidding at Kuching International Airport

KUCHING, Feb 20: The Kuching District Police have dismissed a viral claim circulating on social media alleging that an AirAsia aircraft had skidded at Kuching International Airport (KIA).

The claim, which surfaced on Facebook at approximately 3.09pm today, was quickly investigated by authorities.

Kuching District police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said he immediately contacted the the Malaysia Airports Berhad (MAB) Kuching general manager at 3.12pm, who confirmed that no such incident had occurred.

“The information being spread is false. There was no aircraft skidding at Kuching International Airport,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Farhan urged the public, particularly social media users, to exercise caution and refrain from spreading unverified news, as it could cause unnecessary panic and disrupt public order.

“Spreading false information is a serious matter and can be considered an offense under Section 505 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to two years in prison, a fine, or both,” he warned.

Authorities advised the public to verify information through official channels before sharing it.
