KUCHING, July 24: Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) has lodged a police report following the circulation of a viral video showing an individual allegedly performing a dangerous stunt by jumping from the Darul Hana Bridge.
In a statement today, DBKU said it viewed the incident seriously, describing the act as not only endangering the individual’s own safety and life but also potentially encouraging irresponsible behaviour among members of the public.
The approximately 10-second video, which began circulating on social media yesterday (July 23), showed the individual carrying out what appeared to be an extreme stunt at the Kuching landmark, raising concerns over public safety.
“DBKU will not compromise against any act that threatens public safety, affects public order, or tarnishes the image of public facilities that are landmarks and a source of pride for the city,” it said.
DBKU said a police report was lodged today at 2.11pm to allow further investigation by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) into the incident.
“Such actions could potentially be considered an offence under Section 268 of the Penal Code relating to public nuisance, with offenders liable to penalties under existing laws if convicted,” it added.
DBKU also appealed to members of the public with information about the incident, or those who know the individual involved, to come forward and assist investigations by contacting the PDRM or the city hall.
DBKU stressed that cooperation from all parties was important to ensure public safety and prevent similar incidents from recurring.
The Darul Hana Bridge, located along the Kuching Waterfront, is one of the city’s prominent landmarks and is frequently visited by locals and tourists. — DayakDaily
