KUCHING, Dec 14: The Sessions Court here sentenced a police corporal to a fine of RM2,000 for accepting gratification of RM1,000 from a member of the public.
Suaidi Bujang, 56, who faced one charge, pleaded guilty to the charge today.
Sessions Court Judge Nixon Kennedy Kumbong sentenced him to a fine of RM2,000 or in default of two months’ imprisonment.
According to the charge sheet, as a corporal assigned to Batu Kawa police station Patrol Unit, he had corruptly accepted cash money of RM1,000 from Ng Heng Nguan as an inducement to provide protection from gangsterism at Garden Seafood Cafe, in MJC here at about 5.40pm on May 24, 2017.
He was charged under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum imprisonment term of two years or with fine or with both.
