Police bust syndicate in Batu Kawah: Drugs worth RM394k seized, 2 suspects arrested

KUCHING, March 25: Sarawak police have busted a drug refinery syndicate in Batu Kawah with RM394,000 worth of drugs seized.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Dato Mancha Ata said during the raid that was conducted at an apartment in Batu Kawa on March 22, two individuals aged between 26 and 29 from Sabah were arrested.

“A total of 11,900 grams of Methamphetamine and 66 grams of Ketamine (estimated value of RM394,000) were also seized, which can cater for 59,632 users,” he told a press conference held at Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters here today.

He said other than drug refining apparatus, police also seized a Perodua Bezza (RM40,000), a gold necklace (RM10,345), and a branded sling bag (RM12,000) belonging to the suspects.

He also said that an initial urine test found that the 29-year-old suspect was positive for Amphetamine, Methamphetamine, and Ketamine, while the other suspect was clean.

According to Mancha, the 29-year-old suspect has two previous criminal records involving drugs.

“The modus operandi employed by the syndicate involved acquiring drug supply from West Malaysia, which then is distributed in Kuching and nearby areas based on the user’s request, and both suspects are paid between RM10,000 and RM25,000.

“Both suspects are remanded for seven days under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) from March 24 to 30 to facilitate investigation under Section 39B Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he added.

On another note, Mancha disclosed from Jan until March 24, 2024, Sarawak police confiscated RM9.2 million worth of drugs, including RM1.4 million worth of properties.

He said 2,887 individuals were also arrested during the period, including 169 drug pushers. — DayakDaily
