SIBU, Feb 6: Nine men have been arrested on suspicion of being involved in a fight that stemmed from a misunderstanding that erupted between two individuals at an entertainment centre.

Acting Sibu district police chief Supt Dr Collin Babat said the complainant, 27, an air -conditioning servicing contractor and his wife, 25, were at their house in Sibu Jaya at 4.30pm on February 2 when a group of men showed up.

According to him, the suspects were armed with machetes and sticks. They damaged the victim’s car before breaking the door to their front house.

He said once they were inside the house, they smashed the television screen and other items.

A fight followed the incident, where the complainant and his wife sustained injuries.

According to Collin, the case is believed to be due to a misunderstanding between the complainant and a suspect in the group in front of an entertainment centre at Jalan Tong Sang at 11.30pm last Tuesday.

The following day at 2.30am, the complainant managed to find the suspect at a coffee shop in Raminway, and a fight erupted between the two.

Collin said after the fight, the two sides lodged separate police reports.

Acting on the information, the police team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) managed to apprehend nine suspects aged between 19 and 31, including the complainant and confiscated the weapons used.

All the suspects have been remanded for five days from February 5 to 10 to assist in the further investigation of the case.

Collin added that the police are still tracking down the remaining suspects at large.

The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting using weapons. — DayakDaily
