Police arrest 85 across Sarawak for defying MCO

KUCHING, April 22: Police arrested 85 individuals for flouting the Movement Control Order (MCO) in Sarawak, with Sibu topping the list with 24 violaters over the past 24 hours.

This was followed by Kuching (19); Saratok (13); Miri (10); Kota Samarahan (6); Betong (3); two each in Sarikei and Simunjan; and one each in Bau, Lubok Antu, Tatau and Dalat.

State Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Dev Kumar disclosed in a statement today 191 violators have been charged in court to date.


The breakdown of violaters charged in court by district is Kuching with 56, Kota Samarahan (32), Padawan (31), Sibu (24), Miri (19), Serian (18), Meradong (9), and one each in Limbang and Kanowit.

Since the MCO came into effect on March 18, a total of 1,413 violators have been arrested and 859 have been charged in court.

Dev pointed out that the compliance rate for the MCO in Sarawak remained at 97 per cent. — DayakDaily
