KUCHING, June 12: Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s proposal to make ‘Segulai Sejalai’ the national motto is an honour to Sarawak, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He was referring to Anwar’s recognition of the ‘Segulai Sejalai’ phrase in the Iban language which means ‘together in unity’, during the Gawai Dayak celebration in Kuching on June 7, 2023.
“This year’s Gawai Dayak is very special because our motto ‘, Segulai Sejalai’, has attracted our prime minister; where he said this is the concept that we have to promote throughout Malaysia, and he will use ‘Segulai Sejalai’ as a concept that will be extended nationwide.
“It is indeed an honour not only to the Dayak community but to Sarawak because the top leadership adopted that concept because they want a harmonious Malaysia.
“With a harmonious Malaysia, an integrated development plan can be done and enforced so that Malaysia will be competitive with the other nation,” he said when officiating the Gawai Dayak Open House hosted by the Office of Premier of Sarawak (OPS) held at Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex here today.
Amongst those present were Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian; DUN Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar and wife Puan Sri Datin Amar Fatimah Mohamad Iskandar; Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and wife Datin Amar Baduyah Bujang; and Deputy State Secretary (Administration) Datu Buckland Bangik and wife Datin Daisy Dayus. — DayakDaily
