KUCHING, March 17: Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim has asserted that the country’s security forces will not hesitate to take action against any individuals attempting to incite racial sentiments.

He said the Federal government would continue to protect the principles of the Federal Constitution which states that Islam is the official religion of the country but other religions may be practiced in peace and harmony.

“I would like to reiterate that we will not tolerate in this matter. Any effort by anyone who attempt to incite racial or religious sentiment in this country is not allowed.

“I have instructed the nation’s security forces to be on alert because individuals who are desperate or feel challenged would opt to use this sentiment and they would take advantage by hiring poor people to cause chaos.

“Thus, I will work together with the Federal Cabinet to ensure that unity and harmony among all races would be protected and we will not tolerate any effort that jeopardises the country’s sovereignty,” he said in a press conference broadcast live by Berita RTM on Facebook today.

He further said the current situation is under control but alleged that there are attempts by certain individuals who have lost their power, to incite such sentiment.

“If their act is extreme and disrupts the national peace, the authorities will take serious and strict action against them,” he added. — DayakDaily
