KUCHING, June 22: Sarawak is an ‘economic giant’ and acknowledged as a major hub in the region thanks to its political stability and clear policies, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“Because of the clarity and the ease of doing business and the commitment of its (Sarawak’s) leaders showing their priority for the country and Sarawak in particular, you have seen that there is a remarkable achievement that is of great significance not only for Sarawak but the whole country.
“I travelled to Germany and Japan recently, and without exception, potential investors would recognise Malaysia as an entity.
“Of course, they mentioned the other states, but I state this, with great confidence and pride, that Sarawak is seen as a major hub in the region,” he said.
Anwar said this during the Sarawak Gawai Dayak 2024 gala dinner at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), streamed live via the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) Facebook page tonight.
He said initially, the thought about Sarawak was only about its energy because of its strength in solar power, petroleum gas, hydrogen, green energy, ammonia, and many others.
He also said that Sarawak has been seen as ‘mengejar’ (catching up) in new fields such as energy transition, digital transformation, artificial intelligence (AI), and food security, including food technology.
“However, under the Madani economic programmes and the implementation of Sarawak’s economic framework, it is not just catching up but leapfrogging,” he said. — DayakDaily
