KUCHING, May 1: The government aims to provide insurance coverage for at least one million self-employed workers through the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme under the Social Security Organisation (Socso).
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said under the programme, the government will bear 80 per cent of the amount to be contributed by the individual involved.
In conjunction with Labour Day today, he also introduced MyEzyCover, a family vehicle insurance financing programme available from today (May 1).
“It is a financing package in instalments of up to 10 months without any interest charges, offered to civil servants before being extended to the private sector.
“This programme will be implemented by the Ministry of Human Resources in collaboration with Socso and Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad (ANGKASA),” he said in his Labour Day address today.
Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri also said that the government would make it mandatory for childcare centres to be set up in all government offices, applying to all federal government agencies, state governments and statutory bodies.
He said funds totalling RM10 million and RM30 million were spent in 2019 and 2020, respectively, for this purpose, which is aimed to provide relief for workers with young children.
On another note, he said that implementing the RM1,500 minimum wage would be a gift to all employees in Malaysia for their tireless dedication to contributing to national progress. — DayakDaily
