KUCHING, May 9: Plaza Merdeka Shopping Centre here will remain open with strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) compliance while awaiting further instructions from State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

With or without the announcement of Plaza Merdeka as one of the Hotspots Identification for Dynamic Engagement (Hide) yesterday (May 8), the Management said the shopping centre has been adhering to strict sanitisation schedules every day.

“We are adhering to all SOPs. We have also been sanitising the mall twice a week and areas that are mostly touched every two hours every day.

“Our last mall sanitisation was yesterday (May 8),” the Management said in a statement today, adding that the Hide system serves as a prediction to anticipate and inform the public to be more cautious.

Yesterday, Ministry of Health (MoH) released a list of Hide premises in the whole of Malaysia with four locations identified in Sarawak.

In Kuching, Plaza Merdeka and Vivacity Megamall are in the list. The other two are namely The Summer Shopping Mall in Kota Samarahan and The Spring in Bintulu.

In the Ministry’s statement of frequently asked questions, it said the listed locations are not actual clusters, but only places at risk of becoming Covid-19 hotspots over a seven-day horizon, so business closure is not necessary.

However, there was a twist in events when Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, also yesterday but in the evening, announced that premises listed as Hide were to close down for three days with immediate effect. — DayakDaily
