KUCHING, Dec 8: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak Women urges Batu Kawa assemblyman Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian to look into the plight of Kampung Desa Wira residents who lost their houses to fire last Saturday (Dec 5).
Its secretary Cherishe Ng in a press statement today called on Dr Sim who is also Local Government and Housing Minister to expedite the effort to find a permanent resettlement site for these affected residents.
Ng made the appeal after visiting the affected village yesterday (Dec 7) and having a dialogue with the Village Chief and affected residents of Kampung Desa Wira whose two houses was gutted by fire on Saturday.
The PKR leaders including PKR Bandar Kuching Chairman Dominique NG and members brought along some rice and assorted daily essentials for the fire victims during the visit.
While in the village, Ng said the team learned that one of the houses has been completely destroyed by fire in the weekend blaze.
“The woe of the Kampung people has been most regrettable and PKR would render whatever assistance within its capabilities,” said Ng in a press statement today.
Ng claimed that she found out from the Ketua Kampung Florence John, that the village land was in fact been sold to others but the former landlord has been collecting rentals from the tenants.
“The residents have been fooled by the former landlord and have been made squatters on the land despite paying rentals,” said Ng.
She said after hearing the grievances, Dominique at once contacted Dr Sim who promised to look into the matter trying to first understand the land status in question.
Ng hoped more organizations and political parties can join in the efforts of giving assistance to Kampung Desa Wira fire victims. — DayakDaily
