KUCHING, Dec 2: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak is hoping to field at least 49 candidates in the 12th Sarawak Election.

PKR Sarawak deputy chairman Abang Zulkifli Abang Engkeh said PKR Sarawak had initially targeted 49 seats, but there are still some issues that need to be sorted out.

According to Abang Zulkifli, not all the candidates have been confirmed and there are a few others that need to be studied further.

“Based on the current political situation, there is also a need to minimise the three corner fights, as well as to minimise the existing resources. We will submit the candidates list tomorrow; the latest would be in the morning,” he told reporters during a press conference held at PKR Sarawak headquarters in Jalan Tun Jugah, today.

Abang Zulkifli noted that for seats in Miri involving Senadin, Pujut and Piasau constituency, they are still conducting research on the overlapping seats.

“We want to see whether the seat is firstly filled by winnable and capable candidates, secondly, based on the previous general election data, we will check to see if it is in our favour. We will decide on this at the last minute,” he added.

Abang Zulkifli also pointed out that PKR Sarawak is also thinking to reduce the number of seats the party will fill where other Opposition parties are also contesting.

“If there is a four to seven corner fight, that is where we are looking into. If there is a need for us to provide back-up, in my opinion, we need to do that to reduce the number of competition in one place as it would be to the opponent’s advantage,” he said. — DayakDaily
