KUCHING, Dec 2: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has confirmed the incumbent Datuk Abdullah Saidol for the Semop seat for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

“For Semop, ‘saudara’ Dolah (Abdullah) will be our (GPS) candidate for this area, so that we can develop this place together with what we already have in plan,” said Abang Johari who is also the GPS chairman, while attending a ‘Leaders with the People’ programme at Pulau Bruit, Daro today.

Other than Semop, he also mentioned other incumbents, namely Datu Len Talif Salleh for Kuala Rajang, Safiee Ahmad for Daro, and Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sii for Repok, as a team to develop the cluster of constituencies by the coast.

While Abang Johari did, on Nov 5, drop a hint that Safiee would continue to defend the Daro seat in upcoming Sarawak polls, there was no affirmation including of GPS candidates for the Kuala Rajang and Repok seats.

Meanwhile, Abdullah in his speech at the same event, promised that he would defend the seat.

“Dolah must win Semop for GPS, and so we pray that Semop will continue to be one of GPS’ seats. Let’s work together and win this seat,” said Abdullah who is also Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Corporate Affairs and Sarawak Public Communication Unit).

Abdullah has been Semop elected representative for two terms since 2011. In the 2016 State elections, he won against Parti Amanah Negara’s Mohamad Fadillah Sabali with a 4,412-vote majority out of a total of 6,168 valid votes. — DayakDaily
