PKR man: Unacceptable for third parties to stipulate ‘what can and cannot be done in Christian religion’

Senator Abun Sui Anyit

KUCHING, Nov 25: Third-party intervention or stipulation in what can and cannot be done in the Christian religion is unacceptable, says Sarawak Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy chairman Abun Sui Anyit.

In a statement today, Abun, also a Senator in the Dewan Negara, said he agreed with the Association of Churches in Sarawak’s (ACS) response on the matter by deciding to withdraw from the ‘A Christmas Carol, Sarawak in Diversity’ programme.

“Of course, the spiritual value of Christianity is to forgive, but it is also necessary to continue to stick to the decisions made by the Association so that it becomes an effective lesson to ensure that certain parties would not arbitrarily interfere in religious beliefs and how Christmas is celebrated,” he said.

Apart from that, Abun opined there is also an effort by certain parties in this issue to try to drag the Federal government through the Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD), which has denied their involvement.

“The representatives of the leadership of the Sarawak government should also come forward to give an official statement on this issue.

“This matter cannot be allowed where officials become a ‘Small Napoleon’ (characterised by overly aggressive or domineering social behaviour) or make scapegoats of certain parties for this issue,” he added. — DayakDaily
