KUCHING, Feb 24: Sarawak hopes to develop the Hulu Rajang area adjacent to Indonesia’s new capital Nusantara in Kalimantan, says Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak deputy chairman Abun Sui Anyit.
He believes that Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim will have ideas to develop the Hulu Rajang interior to be in tandem with the ongoing development of Nusantara.
The statement came in light of the fact that Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, will table Budget 2023 later this evening.
“As Malaysians from Sarawak, we really expect the Budget 2023 to allocate more funds for Sarawak, especially for infrastructure facilities.
“If Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) can build more than 1,000 kilometres of newly paved roads in a few years of his administration, Sarawak hopes to do the same,” he said in a statement today.
However, Abun Sui stressed that Sarawak is not expecting anything extravagant in the Budget 2023 because the country’s economic factors are affected.
He said Sarawak must be fair to Anwar to be given time to develop Sarawak in line with the progress of Peninsular Malaysia.
“As a fighter who always understands the interest of the people, I am confident that the Prime Minister has the political determination to advance all the people and areas, especially Sarawak and Sabah,” he added. — DayakDaily
