KUCHING, March 18: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak deputy chairman Abun Sui Anyit is questioning if flash flood in Belaga is related to logging activities in the area.

Abun said he has received some photos from local residents in Belaga showing that a Penan longhouse with 23 doors and 143 residents in Kampung Long Kajang, Linau, Hulu Rajang Parliamentary constituency has been badly affected by floods.

“The flood occurrence in the area was the biggest this year even though it was not the monsoon season,” he said in a statement today.

He added head of the village Kampung Giau Bajan hoped that the authorities could extend their assistance because the floodwaters have also destroyed their crops.

“As such, the Department of Agriculture is expected to extend their help to ease their burden,” he said. — DayakDaily
