MIRI, Oct 23: The setting up of the Village Community Management Council (MPKK) will complement the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), contributing towards the well-being of the people.
PKR Baram publicity chief, Boyce Ngau Anyi, believed the MPKK would not cause problem in the village management but enhance unity and solidarity amongst the villages.
“The MPKK does not do away with JKKK duties, programmes and planning but will be supporting each other for the wellness of the villages,” he told a press conference here today.
He reminded that the village chief will remain the head of the community, hence there should be no issue of two headmen ruling the village.
“Pakatan Harapan (PH) government has its own way of reaching to the grass root level especially to the majority rural communities in Sarawak, which are represented by an opposition government at the national level.
“I appreciate the worries of some village leaders, especially in Baram, who feared their leadership is threatened,” he said.
He said the federal government has always been supportive of all village heads and after the setting up of the MPKK, the Pakatan government hopes a better unity and collaboration amongst the villagers.
“The MPKK will be the body representing the federal government at the village level to communicate their needs to the respective authority,” he pointed out.
Boyce encouraged every village to set up their MPKK as the federal government has already implemented it smoothly in the peninsula and Sabah.
“As equal partners in the Malaysia Federation as stated in MA63 (Malaysia Agreement 1963), we Sarawakians do not want to be left behind in any aspects of the Pakatan government implementations,” he said. — DayakDaily
