KUCHING, May 29: Leaking 500mm high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes in Sebubu is causing water supply disruption in Saratok and Kabong area.

Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) in a statement today said longhouses and private residences from Simpang Roban to Brayang, Simpang Roban to Sg. Berangan, Simpang Roban to Pekan Roban, Ulu Roban, Kampung Sessang, Kampung Nyabor, Kampung Gerigat, Kampung Alit and Kabong are among those affected.

“The duration of the restoration of water supply to consumers varies from one area to another depending on the location and distance of the consumer’s premises, especially in high areas and areas at the end of the pipeline.

“As an alternative, JBALB Betong Division has taken immediate action by sending water tanker trucks to the affected areas,” it said in a statement today.

According to the department, incidents of pipe leakage often occur in some Pan Borneo Highway construction areas in Kuching Division and Miri Division.

“As such, JBALB Sarawak takes this problem seriously and recommends that the Pan Borneo Highway contractor be able to carry out work to repair the leaking pipes immediately as the Gawai Day festive season will arrive in a few days.

“Any inconvenience caused is regretted and we greatly appreciate the high patience of the consumers,” the statement read.
