KUCHING, Aug 7: A major water supply disruption is affecting several areas around Batu Kawa following a burst pipe incident near Emart Moyan along Jalan Matang–Batu Kawa late last night (Aug 6).
In a statement issued today, Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd Southern Regional Office reported that a 750mm mild steel cement-lined (MSCL) pumping main burst at approximately 11pm last night, prompting immediate isolation of the affected pipeline to prevent further damage to the roadway and nearby areas.
Repair works to address the damaged pumping main began at 12pm today and are expected to be completed by 4am tomorrow (Friday, Aug 8).
Consumers in the following areas may experience low water pressure or no supply during the repair works:
- Jalan Matang–Batu Kawa from Tondong traffic light to Malihah Methodist Church
- Jalan Sungai Moyan
- Jalan Batu Kawa Bazaar
- Jalan Batu Kawa Tondong-Bau
- Jalan Sin San Tu A&B
- Jalan Moyan Indah
- Jalan Min Chung
- Jalan Kim Pang
- Jalan Kim Cho Sin
- Jalan Rantau Panjang
- Jalan Batu Kawa Chong Jin Chong
- Jalan Pei Yuan Selatan
- Jalan Genesis Industrial Park and surrounding areas.
The company assured that efforts are being made to restore normal water supply as quickly and safely as possible.
“We are actively monitoring both situations and are committed to restoring full functionality as quickly and safely as possible. We appreciate the public’s understanding and cooperation, and remind all personnel involved to exercise extra caution around Sarawak Energy cables during repair activities,” the statement added. — DayakDaily
