KUCHING, Nov 16: Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman and P196 Stampin candidate Chong Chieng Jen asserts that if Pakatan Harapan (PH) can retain the 10 parliamentary seats it won in Sarawak in 2018, the coalition will have a good chance of forming the federal government on Nov 19.
Chong stated this earlier today at a press conference at a local food court. Also present was DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang.
In the 14th General Election (GE14), PH comprising Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), DAP, and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), won 113 seats, followed by Barisan Nasional (BN) with 79 seats.
“According to the surveys done by research institutions, PH is likely to win between 90 and 100 seats in Peninsular Malaysia, BN is likely to win between 32 and 42 seats and Perikatan Nasional (PN) is likely to win 42 and 52 seats.
“Therefore, as at the time of these surveys, in a worst-case scenario, PH shall need 22 seats from Sabah and Sarawak to win the elections and in the best-case scenario, 12 seats.
“For PH, to win 22 seats from East Malaysia may seem an insurmountable task, but to win 12 seats in East Malaysia is very possible,” he said.
He noted that there are still three days of campaigning left, and that with the momentum building in Peninsular Malaysia, the number of winnable seats for PH is growing by the day.
“For us in Sarawak, if PH can retain the 10 seats that PH won in 2018, then PH will stand a very good chance of forming the federal government on Nov 19,” he added. — DayakDaily
