KUCHING, Feb 29: Selangau MP Baru Bian has signed a statutory declaration (SD) backing interim prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the prime minister.

The signing of the SD was done at Yayasan Albukhary tonight in Kuala Lumpur and witnessed by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR)’s communication director Fahmi Fadzil, Dr Mahathir and several members of Parliament (MPs) from the Pakatan Harapan (PH).

At the same time, Fahmi also made a live streaming of Baru’s signing the SD on his Facebook page.

With Baru signing the SD, Fahmi who is Lembah Pantai MP, claimed that PH has the backing of 114 MPs for Dr Mahathir to be the prime minister.

This came hours after Yang di-Pertuan Agong announced that Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has been appointed the 8th Prime Minister.

He will be sworn in tomorrow (March 1).

Previously, Baru is believed to be part of the camp which was aligned to former PKR deputy president Datuk Azmin Ali.

Azmin however has reportedly joined Bersatu.

According to The Star, Dr Mahathir is expected to issue an official statement on the matter after the meeting.

Earlier, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) deputy president Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub claimed Pakatan had 112 SDs signed in support of Dr Mahathir as prime minister and hoped to have another audience with the King to prove the claim.— DayakDaily
