PGA foils human trafficking attempt near Kg Mapu Kijabu

SERIAN, June 16: The 11th Battalion of the General Operations Force (PGA) detained two local men for allegedly attempting to smuggle eight illegal immigrants to Indonesia.

Its commanding officer Supt Rosdi Inai revealed incident was uncovered on June 14 at about 8pm when a team of PGA personnel was patrolling around Mapu Kijabu village under ‘Op Benteng Covid’.

“Our 11th Battalion PGA team successfully thwart an attempt to smuggle illegal immigrants back to Indonesia. During the raid, we found two vehicles driven by two locals carrying eight Indonesians heading towards the Malaysia-Indonesia border. Upon checking, none of the Indonesians had valid travel documents with them.

“All of them were arrested and both vehicles were confiscated. The case was handed over to Serian police for further investigation under Immigration 1959 Act and Anti-Trafficking of Person and Smuggling Migrants Act 2007,” he discosed in a statement.

Rosdi also called upon the public to continue to cooperate and provide information to the police concerning any crime related cases. — DayakDaily
