KUCHING, Feb 17: There is no time limit for swapping to Petros’ red gas cylinders from other brands, while the price for gas refill is fixed at RM26.60 without discount as liquified petroleum gas (LPG) is a controlled item.

Giving this assurance to the public, PetrosNiaga representative Kelly dispelled rumours or misinformation circulating suggesting that the public would not be able to exchange to Petros’ red cylinder by March.

“Whether they are yellow or green cylinders, we will swap them for free. There is no issue with that. This also applies to the purple-coloured 14kg cylinder, which is meant for commercial use.

“Even if the customer possesses very old and unusable cylinders, we will exchange them for safety reasons as they may be unsafe and to prevent their circulation in the market,” she explained during Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng’s ShallWeeTalk Facebook live today.

This clarification came after Wee raised that he spotted two old gas cylinders in a recent Petros LPG exchange programme in Batu Kawah which PetrosNiaga readily swapped.

Addressing cases where households possess multiple gas cylinders, Kelly assured customers that they can swap one or a maximum of two units at one time without issue.

“This is to ensure adequate Petros red cylinders in the market at all times during this transition period,” she said.

Wee also inquired about the varied LPG cylinder prices in the market, to which Kelly explained that customers would only need to pay RM26.60 for the gas refill through self-collection from a retailer or dealer.

Any price discrepancies, she added, stem from delivery or transportation costs when customers request cylinders to be sent to their homes.

“The dealer would charge a delivery fee, which can vary depending on the distance of the locations.

“The LPG is a controlled item, and its price is gazetted and fixed at RM26.60 by the government. The price will not exceed this, excluding any delivery fee. However, there won’t be discounts as we must adhere to regulations,” she said.

For those purchasing a new unit, Kelly stated that the empty cylinder is priced at RM110 (PetrosNiaga’s retail price to dealer), with gas filling at RM26.60, excluding delivery fees.
Customers who purchase directly from the dealer will only pay RM136.60.

Kelly also advised customers to keep the receipt when purchasing a new cylinder unit for the purpose of selling it back in usable condition, such as when migrating to another country.

In Sarawak, PetrosNiaga, the sole supplier of subsidised LPG effective Dec 1, 2023, has 65 dealers, with over 33 based in Kuching and 280 sub-dealers.

The public can find their nearest dealer through the PetrosNiaga website or by contacting 1300-88-2122 (8am-6pm). — DayakDaily
