KUCHING, Nov 27: Petros Niaga Sdn Bhd (Petros Niaga) will become the sole distributor for 700,000 subsidised LPG cylinders throughout Sarawak starting Dec 1, 2023.

Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said that currently, there are two suppliers of subsidised LPG cylinders in the State, namely Petros Niaga, which has 68 per cent of market shares and MYGAZ Sdn Bhd with 32 per cent.

Petros Niaga is a subsidiary company owned by Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) with 51 per cent equity. In comparison, the remaining 49 per cent is owned by Petronas Dagangan Berhad (100 per cent owned by Malaysia).

“It is time for a local Malaysian company based in Sarawak, Petros Niaga, to be appointed as the sole distributor of subsidised LPG cylinders in the State starting Dec 1, 2023.

“Don’t let our local companies keep looking at foreign companies to do business in Sarawak,” he said during his ministerial winding-up speech in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.

Julaihi said Petros Niaga, with a strength of 65 dealers and 280 sub-dealers, will provide employment opportunities to thousands of Sarawakians.

ā€œA total of 16 dealers under MYGAZ Sdn Bhd previously, at any time, can switch to Petros Niaga to obtain subsidised LPG gas supply.

ā€œWith this, there is no issue of job loss as claimed by related parties as it was during MYGAZ Sdn Bhd took over operations from Shell in 2013,ā€ he added. ā€” DayakDaily
