KUCHING, Dec 11: A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on a staggered increase of natural gas supply to Sarawak for the implementation of projects under the Sarawak Gas Roadmap were inked between Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) and Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas), today.
Petronas chairman Tan Sri Mohd Bakke Salleh said, “The staggered increase envisaged under the MOU will ultimately bring the total domestic gas allocation to 1.2 billion standard cubic feet per day.
“This will not only support Sarawak’s aspirations to attract investments from new, higher value-adding industries into the state but would also provide the necessary impetus for further upstream exploration that would strengthen the it’s hydrocarbon resource base.”
Petronas currently has existing agreements to supply natural gas to the power and non-power sectors in Sarawak.
Mohd Bakke said they are actively encouraging sustained upstream investments in exploring more gas resources and further developing discovered gas resources, particularly in Sarawak.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg witnessed the signing of the MOU which was signed by Petronas executive vice president and Upstream chief executive officer Adif Zulkifli and Petros group chief executive officer Datuk Sauu Kakok.
Among others who attended the ceremony were Malaysia Petroleum Management senior vice president Mohamed Firouz Asnan, Petros’ board chairman Tan Sri Hamid Bugo and Sarawak Economic Planning Unit director Datuk Dr Mohammad Abdullah Zaidel. — DayakDaily
