KUCHING, Dec 11: Don’t waste your votes on other parties, because Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP), Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) under Pakatan Harapan (PH) are the only genuine Opposition parties.

Without naming names, Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen said other so-called Opposition parties were slowly falling behind the contest during the campaign period, and advising the people not to vote recklessly.

“A vote cast to them would be a waste of your vote. So, let’s focus and consolidate our votes on the three parties – DAP, PKR and Amanah,” he said when noting the high possibility of vote splitting due to the increasing number of contesting parties in the coming polls.

In most constituencies, he said, the fights are at least four-cornered, and voters could easily get confused and become undecisive as to which party to support.

Chong, who is DAP candidate for Padungan, thus urged voters to support the Sarawak Opposition coalition depending on the party that is standing in each constituency.

“For example, where a PKR candidate is standing, we call upon supporters of Amanah and DAP to cast their votes to support PKR, and the same goes to the others.

“Our united call is to vote for a genuine and true Opposition in this coming election. The PH parties, PKR, Amanah and DAP; we are established and have a long history.

“We have also gone through many elections. Win or lose, we are here to speak up for the people and to fight for the rights of the people,” he said during a solidarity press conference at Sarawak DAP headquarters here today.

Though each of the three Opposition parties had launched their own manifestos, Chong said the one common thread among the trio is the belief in “good governance, transparency, and fairness”.

He said that is the principle that has held the three parties together through their many ups and downs.

Among those present at the press conference were Amanah Sarawak chairman Abg Abdul Halil Abg Naili and PKR Santubong division chief Ahmad Nazib Johari. — DayakDaily
