Petronas retracts appeal against Sarawak govt over RM2 billion SST

KUCHING, August 3: Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) has withdrawn its appeal over its failed judicial review application over the payment of RM2 billion in State Sales Tax (SST) on petroleum products at the Court of Appeal in Putrajaya today.

According to The Edge Malaysia, the withdrawal was recorded at the Court of Appeal.

In recording the withdrawal, Justice Datuk Abdul Karim Jalil, Justice Datuk Hadhariah Syed Ismail and Justice Datuk Indera Mohd Sofian Abd Razak said those appeals were struck out.

The Edge Malaysia also reported the Sarawak government had also withdrawn its cross appeal over the jurisdiction issue of the High Court.

The appeal court decided that each party was to bear its own costs.

Meanwhile, the court proceeding was conducted through video conferencing due to Covid-19.

The Sarawak government was represented by state attorney-general Datuk Talat Mahmood Abdul Rashid and state legal counsel Datuk Seri JC Fong.

Petronas was represented by counsel Alvin Chong. — DayakDaily
