PETRONAS invests over RM17 bln in Sarawak’s upstream O&G sector as of Q3 2024

KUCHING, Nov 20: As of the third quarter of 2024, PETRONAS through its production sharing contracts (PSCs) has invested over RM17 billion in Sarawak’s upstream oil and gas sector, with RM11 billion for capital expenditure on new projects.

Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said these new projects include hydrocarbon production projects at Jerun field and Kasawari field as well as those at the DEWA Complex Cluster and Ketapu Cluster.

“The first production of hydrocarbons from the Jerun field in July and the Kasawari field in August this year serve to meet the growing domestic gas demand and to sustain supply to the Malaysia LNG Complex in Bintulu

“And the two PSC blocks, namely DEWA Complex Cluster and Ketapu Cluster, were awarded in October 2024,” said Awang Tengah who is Bukit Sari assemblyman (GPS-PBB).

The Deputy Premier also revealed that PETRONAS has also achieved a localisation rate of 90.6 per cent within its Sarawak workforce.

This includes 77.8 per cent at senior management level, 64.2 per cent among managers, 83.8 per cent among executives and 98.6 percent among non-executive staff.

“Furthermore, RM2.49 billion worth of contract works were awarded to 270 Sarawakian vendors, which accounted for 32 percent of the total contract works awarded in Sarawak during the same period,” said Awang Tengah. — DayakDaily
