BINTULU, Oct 11: Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) today handed over flood relief equipment to Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Sarawak, which will be used to assist flood victims in Sarawak during the year-end monsoon season.

The equipment includes four boats fitted with engines, 1,000 collapsible tents, 700 life jackets and 7,000 raincoats.

Asean Bintulu Fertilizer Sdn Bhd Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Aslam Khan Mohater Khan handed over the items to APM Sarawak Deputy Director Major Wan Khairul Zakwan Wan Tajudden at the APM Sarawak office in Bintulu here.

The event was witnessed by Sarawak Food Industries, Commodities and Regional Development Minister Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom; Bintulu Resident Datu Jack Aman Luat and Sarawak Coastguard Security Officer Muhammad Muzakkir Affif Saini.

Aslam hoped the contribution and involvement will ease the burden of APM Sarawak in carrying out their duties as well as to enhance their preparedness in bracing for the upcoming monsoon season.

“Through this strategic collaboration, we are confident that our contribution will benefit the flood victims in the Sarawak,” he said in a statement today.

The initiative is part of Petronas’ RM25 million flood assistance contribution, announced in December 2021, to assist thousands displaced by heavy floods in many parts of the country.

The fund was pledged by units and subsidiaries within the Petronas Group including Yayasan Petronas.

Petronas also recently contributed RM2.5 million to MERCY Malaysia as aid for the victims of the monsoon floods that hit South and Northwest parts of Pakistan. — DayakDaily
