Petronas boosts Covid-19 immunisation efforts in Bintulu

BINTULU, June 29: Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) is boosting its efforts in supporting the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) in Bintulu through the donation of several essential items for use at the vaccination centres here.

The company’s subsidiaries, namely Malaysia LNG Group of Companies and Petronas LNG 9 Sdn Bhd, Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd – Sarawak Gas and Asean Bintulu Fertiliser Sdn Bhd (ABF), have collectively contributed eight laptops, 20 sets of queue-up stands and five units of medical grade vaccine cooler boxes worth RM52,000 to the Bintulu Division Health Office today.

ABF managing director Aslam Khan Mohater Khan handed over the items to Bintulu Division Health officer Dr Melvin Chung at the newly set oil and gas industry vaccination centre in Kidurong today.


Also present were Bintulu Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, MLNG senior general manager Shariman Daud, Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd – Sarawak Gas general manager Shamsawi Ahmad, Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd – Sarawak Gas head of Health, Safety and Environment Cecilia Lakai and Petronas Sarawak senior manager Norazibah Rabu.

The Kidurong industrial vaccination centre which opened yesterday, will roll out vaccinations for some 4,800 oil and gas workers here.

“We are doing our part to help accelerate the pace of PICK, to assist the country’s progress towards achieving herd immunity.

“This initiative is also part of Petronas’ efforts to safeguard the wellbeing of local communities during the pandemic,” said Aslam in a press statement.

Petronas’ subsidiaries had previously contributed 6,200 disposable personal protective equipment (PPE) items to front-liners from six agencies – Bintulu General Hospital, Bintulu Police Department, Bintulu Health Office, Bintulu People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela), Bomba Bintulu and Civil Defense Force Bintulu.

Meanwhile, Petronas’ contributions to curb Covid-19 transmission here also included medical and food supplies to front-liners and quarantine centres, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) machines to the Bintulu Disaster Management Committee, eight laptops for PICK in Tatau and Sebauh districts, reagent test kits to Bintulu Hospital as well as school supplies and personal hygiene kits to primary school students. — DayakDaily
