KUCHING, Nov 3: Petra Jaya incumbent Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof is committed to addressing challenges in the parliamentary constituency, especially those involving affordable housing.

Fadillah said he will focus on improving the socioeconomic status and wellbeing of Petra Jaya residents as well.

“Because Petra Jaya is a city area where the cost of living is high, and for that, we have to think about how to increase the income of the people, especially in Petra Jaya parliamentary constituency,” he told reporters when met after officiating at Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) Career Talk held at CIDB Convention Centre here today.

The caretaker Senior Minister of Works said apart from that, he will also focus on education development by reviving student interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) classes.

He said STEM classes are among areas of focus under Sarawak Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 which is important in order for Sarawak to achieve its target of becoming a developed and high income State by 2030.

“Most of the components of this strategy focus on the field of science and technology where we are not only need investors, but we also want to produce human resources with knowledge and skills (technology savvy) who will be able to be employed and involved in the value chain in the areas we focus on, whether it’s green energy, digital economy and all the new frontiers being worked on by the Sarawak government,” he added.

Meanwhile, in terms of infrastructure in Petra Jaya, Fadillah said there is still a lot that need to be improved such as addressing traffic congestion.

He also pointed out that there is a need for proper planning, not only to improve infrastructure, but also to implement technology to manage traffic flow more effectively and efficiently.

“For this, it will include the implementation of an Intelligent Transport System (ITS), which has been planned for at the national level.

“Maybe Petra Jaya can be a pilot programme in Sarawak for us to implement ITS,” he said.
