SERIAN, Jan 15: Petra Jaya Hospital, which is currently 82 per cent complete, is under the close attention of the Ministry of Health (MoH).
Health minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said discussions are ongoing to address any issues related to the project.
He added that he had visited the hospital in 2018 and had taken action against the contractor at that time.
“This (Petra Jaya Hospital) is under the attention of the MoH, and we will make the appropriate decision. At the moment, we are discussing the matter,” he told reporters after officiating the Serian and Sibu Health Clinics in Siburan here.
Dr Dzulkefly expressed hope that the contractor would be able to deliver the project, noting that the people are waiting.
Meanwhile, Sarawak Health director Dr Veronica Lugah said whether the hospital can be opened this year depends on the Public Works Department (JKR).
“Whether the hospital can open this year, which we hope it will, depends on JKR. The onus is on JKR as the technical authority.
“We hope for good cooperation from the contractor,” she said.
On the Siburan Health Clinic, Dr Veronica said it was built at a cost of RM28.7 million.
She added that the Class III clinic will serve about 81,000 people in the Siburan vicinity. — DayakDaily
