MIRI, June 15: Persatuan Melayu Miri (PMM) have been urged to help preserve and promote racial harmony among the various races in the state.

Strong racial harmony is what makes Sarawak unique, highlighted Assistant Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

“We share similarities with each other, and we should protect and nurture them. Preserve them from religious and racial bigots,” Lee said at PMM’s Hari Raya open house at Jalan Kipas here today.

Also present were PMM president Radzali Alison, Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting, mayor Adam Yii, Miri district officer Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusuf and about 100 members.

At the gathering, Lee announced a RM10,000 allocation for the association’s activities.

In his welcoming speech, Radzali said PMM would unveil its plan for a multipurpose hall during its triennial general meeting on June 29.

“Members of PMM are encouraged to attend the meeting as we will be discussing issues such as the association constitution and membership fees,” he said. — DayakDaily
