Pending’s seafood processing plant, Kampung Muara Tebas latest Covid-19 outbreak areas declared in Kuching

KUCHING, June 15: A seafood processing plant at Pending industrial area and Kampung Muara Tebas near Bako here are the latest areas in Kuching swept up in a Covid-19 outbreak as a result of social movement and close interaction.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its latest updates on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak today, revealed that the Jalan Daya Cluster linked to the seafood processing factory has 27 positive cases so far involving employees and occupants of a factory workers’ house located at Jalan Daya here.

A total of 153 individuals have been screened whereby 50 tested negative while 76 are still awaiting lab test results.


As for the Kampung Muara Tebas Cluster, SDMC informed that 14 people have been infected involving a few families from separate houses at the village.

A total of 17 individuals have been screened whereby three tested negative and no results are pending.

All positive cases from the two clusters have been admitted to Sarawak General Hospital and Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRCs) Kuching for isolation and treatment.

Meanwhile, these two clusters are among the five new Covid-19 clusters declared in Sarawak today.

The remaining three clusters were identified in Subis, which were named the Dulang Cluster, which was linked to a oil palm plantation under lockdown with 39 cases; the Nanga Strass Cluster in Meradong linked to a longhouse under lockdown with 29 cases; and the Nanga Sejugam Cluster in Julau linked to a longhouse with 64 cases.

The State Health Department also declared the end of two clusters namely Lon Jegan Cluster in Beluru and Jalan Sultan Tengah in Kuching, after no new cases were reported in the last 28 days.

With that, the number of active clusters in Sarawak now stands at 86, out of which eight clusters have recorded an increase in daily infections with 79 cases in total.

They were Pekan Tatau Baru Cluster in Tatau registered 50 more cases, Kampung Sebandi Hilir Cluster in Lundu (10 cases), Kampung Kolong 2 Cluster in Kuching (8 cases), Semanok Cluster in Tatau (6 cases), Muara Tabuan Cluster in Kuching (2 cases) while Emperan Cluster in Selangau, Jalan Coastal Bintulu-Miri Cluster in Bintulu and Melatai Cluster in Kapit added one case each. — DayakDaily
