KUCHING, April 15: Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong has expressed her frustration with the Kuching Water Board (KWB) over the prolonged delay in identifying the source of an underground pipe leakage along Jalan Perimat, near the Pos Malaysia office in Pending.

In a statement today, she pointed out that the extended repair works have led to the closure of two lanes, severely disrupting traffic flow and causing significant congestion during peak hours.

Yong said that the issue was first reported two weeks before the Hari Raya break after receiving multiple public complaints.

Despite this, she claimed that the repair works did not begin until after the holiday period, and as of today, the source of the leak has still not been located.

“The slow response and lack of urgency by the Kuching Water Board have caused great inconvenience to road users, who are stuck in daily traffic jams because of this issue,” she said.

Yong also questioned whether the KWB was equipped with the proper leak detection technology, suggesting that the ongoing delays indicate either a lack of resources or inefficiency in handling the situation.

“If they have the right equipment, why is it so difficult to find and fix the leak?” she asked.

As a result of the repair works, a three-lane road has been reduced to just one lane, making traffic even more challenging for commuters.

In light of the ongoing inconvenience, Yong has urged the water board to temporarily patch up the damaged section of the road to ease the flow of traffic.

“What’s more frustrating is the lack of any timeline to fully resolved the leakage issue,” she said while calling for immediate action from KWB to address the situation swiftly and restore normal traffic conditions for the benefit of road users in the area. — DayakDaily
